Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Rumored to Feature a Rainbow Six Siege Multiplayer Mode

An often-accurate Call of Duty leaker claims the franchise’s 2022 release will feature a game mode akin to Rainbow Six Siege.

Rumors are flying about 2022’s annual Call of Duty release, and it’s difficult to tell fact from fiction. As ever, the leaks sound exciting on paper, but could be the product of overactive imaginations and unreliable rumormongers. For example, one recent rumor is that Call of Duty 2022 will feature a “DMZ Mode” inspired by Escape from Tarkov and Battlefield 2042‘s Hazard Zone. However, a new rumor hints at an entirely different Call of Duty 2022 game mode named Attackers v. Defenders inspired by Rainbow Six Siege.

This rumor comes from Twitter user and leaker RalphsValve, who has had previous leaks regarding the next Call of Duty corroborated by other leakers. RalphsValve is sharing this Attackers v. Defenders rumor for the first time, however. In Attackers v. Defenders, players join one of two teams for a round-based tactical multiplayer experience. Attackers are given an objective each round, while Defenders stand in opposition to the Attackers using boobytraps, cameras, and weaponry.

In further detail, players will be able to receive an assigned “role” as chosen through a team vote. These votes also pick a Team Leader. These roles can then be changed between rounds. It doesn’t sound quite like Rainbow Six Siege‘s class-based system, but will likely be built around allowing players to choose their preferred Operators while still getting some class abilities. It isn’t clear what the Team Leader position will be for.

Several other details about the Call of Duty 2022 game mode were also shared. There are time limits for each round, for example. It features destructible environments that can be fortified. Further, there’s a new “condition system” where players can have minor injuries, be critically injured, or be mortally wounded. Attackers will also have tourniquets that can heel their injured teammates. The map for the game mode is also described as a larger version of Call of Duty 4‘s CQB Test map.

While RalphsValve’s description of the Attackers v. Defenders game mode makes it seem clearly inspired by Rainbow Six Siege, there are still some questions to answer. The big one is whether Call of Duty 2022 will have two new modes between this and the rumored DMZ Mode that’s inspired by Escape from Tarkov. It’s also possible that leakers are confusing the two modes and that they’re the same, or that there’s additional context missing.

Obviously, there’s a lot left for Activision to announce for Call of Duty 2022. It’s rumored to be named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but even that isn’t certain at this point. All Call of Duty fans can do is be patient and wait for official announcements to come later this year.

Call of Duty 2022 is currently in development.
