Battlefield 2042 Update 3.1.2 Adding New Weapons and Making Balance Changes

Battlefield 2042’s first update of the year is adding more guns into Battlefield Portal alongside an assortment of bug fixes and balance adjustments.

Multiplayer shooter Battlefield 2042 is releasing update 3.1.2 to balance some known vehicle, weapon, and specialist issues noted over the holidays and since the beginning of the Battle of Nordvik event. Electronic Arts are also making one of the maps added in Season 3 available in Battlefield 2042‘s Portal modes, alongside the addition of multiple guns not previously available in the mode as well.

After struggling to find solid footing with fans and players when it was officially released in November 2021, Battlefield 2042 has regained some stability in its player count during its second and third seasons. Introduced alongside the main game, Battlefield 2042‘s Portal mode is developer DICE’s attempt at giving a level of control over gameplay design and new experiences to users not seen in previous Battlefield games. At launch, many fans were disappointed with the options in the Portal mode, but Battlefield 2042 developers continue to adjust and add to it, giving players and fans an increasingly diverse set of options when creating or setting up in-game experiences the way they want.

At the top of the weapon changes list coming on January 17 is a fix to recoil compensation after weapons were being fired for prolonged periods of time, though EA doesn’t note which specific weapons were affected by this issue. Other gun fixes include changing the damage values for the Rorsch MK-4 when hitting vehicles with its High Power Capacitor variant, lowering the damage to both heavy and light vehicles by 50% and 25%, respectively, while increasing the gun’s charge rate from 0.8 to 1 second. The MCS-880 shotgun was given an increase to its damage at 20 yards or fewer, with the gun’s pellet damage increasing from 8 to 15, bringing it more in line with Battlefield 2042‘s other close-range weapons.

Electronic Arts also announced the addition of a few player-favorite weapons from the 1940s era into Battlefield Portal. The M1 Garand Sniper rifle, MK VI Revolver, Gewehr 43 semi-automatic rifle, its sniper variant the Gewehr 43 ZF4, the Lee-Enfield No. 4 rifle, and the Sten submachine gun will all be made available in the Battlefield Portal. Introduced in Season 3, Battlefield 2042‘s Spearhead map will be available as an official template in the Portal mode for the first time, allowing users to create team deathmatch modes, Free-for-all games, and Conquest Hardcore matches on the new map.

Though the game was met with much negativity when first released, Electronic Arts and DICE have continued to stride forward with fixes and adjustments to the regular game and each of the various modes contained within. Battlefield 2042 continues to move forward, showing that EA is refusing to let its biggest Call of Duty competitor be shot down without a fight. For fans of the series, these fixes and additions are welcome changes to a game that most wrote off as a disappointment shortly after it launched.
