Asmongold Wants to See World of Warcraft Console Version After Microsoft Acquisition

Recently, the gaming world was shaken by the massive news that Microsoft had acquired Activision Blizzard. As a result of this $68.7 billion deal, many popular properties, such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft, are coming under the control of Microsoft. While many gamers have been speculating about the positives and negatives of this acquisition, popular Twitch streamer Asmongold believes that it could be just what the World of Warcraft brand needs to stay on top in the MMORPG genre.

In a tweet from January 18, Asmongold revealed that he had just found out about Microsoft purchasing Activision Blizzard. Like many gamers, he admitted that he had not seen the acquisition coming. “Waking up to find out Activision-Blizzard got bought by Microsoft wasn’t what I expected, wow,” he said. He added that he hoped this acquisition could benefit the gaming community moving forward.

In addition to tweeting about the acquisition as a whole, he went into detail about its possible implications for the World of Warcraft community during a recent live stream. While not many details were known, the streamer hoped this deal would potentially see the game come to consoles and mobile devices. According to Asmongold, he believed that the MMORPG needed to branch out beyond the PC audience to continue to advance.

Besides advocating that the game should come to console and mobile devices, Asmongold pointed out that other MMOs are already doing this. According to the streamer, Final Fantasy 14 had a functional console version, along with Elder Scrolls Online. In addition, he urged players not to get the wrong idea regarding mobile integration, as he stated that it should look nothing like Genshin Impact and its Gacha system.

Instead, Asmongold stated that there were better ways to integrate mobile support that could benefit both fans and the developer. “Don’t categorically write off mobile support because it’s not good for the game,” he cautioned his audience. He argued that mobile and console integration looked to offer more opportunities for the title to expand. Furthermore, he said that limiting it to a PC-only audience was a very restrictive approach, claiming that it was a “2010 way of thinking.”

This speculation from Asmongold about the possibility of console and mobile versions of the game is doubtlessly exciting for many World of Warcraft fans. If the game does eventually come to other platforms, it would mean that more people could have the opportunity to experience the title. However, Microsoft has not confirmed any news regarding possible console or mobile versions coming in the days ahead. With this in mind, it seems players will have to wait and see what the future holds for the popular MMORPG.
