Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows players a great deal of freedom. From choosing which villagers live on their island, to being able to customize every detail of the island the player lives on, the latest title in the Animal Crossing series has seen players pour hundreds of hours into making sure their in-game home is perfect. Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will each take a different approach to their island, with many dedicating their homes to games, movies, and other media.
Sometimes, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will dedicate their island to their favorite Nintendo titles, such as one player who recently recreated the ruined Hyrule Castle as seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, Animal Crossing fans are not exclusively tied to creating islands inspired by Nintendo games, as one fan has proven by their creation of an island inspired by the locations featured in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Despite being over six years old, many gamers still hold The Witcher 3 in high esteem, creating tributes to the fantasy RPG and the locations of the game often feature in these tributes, such as one fan creating an impressive oil painting of Hanged Man’s Tree. One Animal Crossing player though, has been slowly turning their island into a Witcher inspired paradise, posting each of their updates to Reddit of the work they’ve put in to transform their cutesy, cartoon island into a representation of the darker world of The Witcher 3.
Fans of both Animal Crossing and The Witcher have flocked to the posts of the player creating their Witcher island, offering their support and praise of the customized island. “Can I come visit?! I think this is my happy place,” wrote one commenter. The current updated version of the island features a woodland path, similar to the areas in The Witcher 3 where Geralt may wander into a group of roaming bandits or a Leshen. Following the woodland trail, the player then shows off a coastal bandit camp. Prior to this most recent development, the player had created Honeyfill Meadworks from The Witcher 3 in their island as well, and it seems there’s much more work to be done in creating the perfect Witcher tribute.
Though it has been a while since The Witcher 3 first launched, the franchise still has plenty of other things to keep fans excited, such as the recently released season 2 of The Witcher TV show, and a next-gen port of The Witcher 3 on the way.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
